About FTC
The
FIRST (For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Tech Challenge is a mid-level competition for high school students that engages them in solving engineering design problems in an intense and competitive way. It offers the traditional challenge of a
FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) but with a more accessible and affordable robotics kit. The ultimate goal of FTC is to reach more young people with a lower-cost opportunity to discover the excitement and rewards of science, technology, and engineering.
The program reaches thousands of students from around the country and the world. Each team is comprised of professional mentors and a maximum of ten high-school-aged students. Teams compete for a series of awards honoring accomplishments in areas including engineering, design excellence, sportsmanship, and high impact partnerships between schools, businesses, and communities.
The FTC season begins in early September with an official challenge kick-off. In Northern California, starting in November, the team members the teams compete in qualifiers, where they have the opportunity to advance to State Championship.
